The Dallas Opera - The Diving Bell and the Butterfly at Winspear Opera House

Why see The Dallas Opera - The Diving Bell and the Butterfly?

Fly like a butterfly into a mind of infinite possibilities!

Grammy award-winning world-renowned lyrical baritone Lucas Meachem takes the lead in this epic tale of one man's struggles in the face of adversity. Brought to life by composer Joby Talbot and libretto Gene Sheer, the epic opera follows a journalist who awakens from a coma completely paralyzed and unable to speak.

What's it about?

Based on the true story of journalist Jean-Dominique Bauby, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly covers the life of the Elle editor after a tragic stroke that left him able to blink only one eye. We see him dictate his memoir, with the use of this one eye and an assistant, and escape into the fantastical depths of his mind, embarking into a world where anything is possible.
