Why see Dallas Opera - La Boheme?

Experience Puccini's Timeless Romance

Since its premiere in 1896, La Bohme has grown into one of the most beloved operas in the world, with only Puccini's other masterwork, Madama Butterfly, rivaling it for sheer popularity. Its captivating romance and heart-wrenching tragedy are punctuated by the great composer's soaring arias and glorious duets, masterfully fusing music and storytelling that plucks at the audience's heartstrings. Pack tissues for Dallas Opera's latest production, featuring Uzbekistan-born tenor Bekhzod Davronov, American lyric soprano Sylvia D'Eramo, Japanese baritone Takaoki Onishi, and American soprano Emily Pogorelc making their Dallas Opera debuts.

Set in the Bohemian streets of 1840s Paris, the opera tells the tale of the doomed love between a struggling poet Rodolfo, and a seamstress Mimi. Their romance is an all-consuming one, with many ups and downs, much like the on-again-off-again relationship of their compatriots Musetta and Marcello. When Rodolfo learns Mimi's cough is the first signs of consumption, he feigns jealousy and ends things, in the hope that Mimi finds a richer suitor who is able to look after her. As with all great tragedies, death looms in the wings...
