Dallas Opera - Carmen at Winspear Opera House

Why see Dallas Opera - Carmen?

Experience the Fire & Passion of Bizet's Carmen

Upheld as one of the greatest operas of all time by critics and opera goers alike, Bizet's thrilling Carmen not only has pulse-quickening drama, a passionate love triangle and hotblooded characters, but an iconic score filled with soaring, instantly recognisable melodies that are impossible not to hum along to. Experience the sensual tale of the ultimate femme fatale during Emmanuel Villaume and Dallas Opera's latest Carmen production, featuring French mezzo-soprano Stephanie D'Oustrac in the titular role.

A fiery gypsy who works in a factory, Carmen warns all who look upon her that her heart cannot be tamed. She uses her beauty and sensuality to ensnare soldier Don Jose, who shirks his duties and his beloved Micaela to be with her, allowing Carmen her gypsy friends to smuggle contraband into Seville. When his infatuation with Carmen turns murderous, Don Jose himself becomes a fugitive, whilst the fickle enchantress turns her attentions to the famous toreador Escamillo, stoking the fires of Don Jose's dangerous rage...

What was that all about? ... Read more
