Why See Dallas Opera: Norma?

bellini's powerhouse opera

Dallas Opera presents John Conklin's storming Norma from Cincinnati Opera led by Elza Van Den Heever in one of the most demanding roles in the repertoire. A blazing love story, Norma is the story of a high priestess whose love for Pollione, a soldier of the occupying Roman army finds her torn between her own happiness and that of her people. When Pollione's eye strays, Norma is stuck in a quagmire, should she reveal her betrayal to her people? War and the anger of the gods are invoked in this highly emotive drama that pits passionate love against the bitter-sweet taste of revenge.
